Growing Delicacy White Kohlrabi: A Personal Journey

=============================================

As a curious gardener, I have always been fascinated by the unique and delicious flavors of kohlrabi. In this article, I will share my personal experience of growing Delicacy White kohlrabi, from planting the seeds to harvesting the crunchy and flavorful roots.

Why Delicacy White Kohlrabi?

I was drawn to Delicacy White kohlrabi because of its mild and slightly sweet flavor profile. I wanted to grow a variety that would add a pop of color and freshness to my salads, slaws, and other dishes. After researching different types of kohlrabi, I decided to give Delicacy White a try.

Preparing the Soil

Before planting my Delicacy White kohlrabi seeds, I made sure to prepare the soil in my garden bed. I chose a spot that receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight) and has well-draining soil. I tested the pH level of my soil using a DIY kit and found it to be slightly acidic (pH 6.2). To adjust the pH, I added some lime to the soil, following the recommended application rate.

Sowing the Seeds

I sowed my Delicacy White kohlrabi seeds directly into the prepared soil in late spring, when the soil had warmed up to at least 60°F (15°C). I planted the seeds about 1-2 inches deep and 1-2 inches apart, depending on the spacing recommended by the seed packet. I watered the soil gently but thoroughly after planting.

Caring for the Seedlings

After sowing the seeds, I kept the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. I made sure to provide the seedlings with enough light and air circulation. As the seedlings grew, I started to thin them out to about 6-8 inches apart, depending on the mature size of the plant.

Fertilizing and Pruning

To promote healthy growth and encourage the production of roots, I fertilized my Delicacy White kohlrabi plants with a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10 NPK) once a month. I also pruned the plants to encourage bushy growth and prevent them from flowering.

Harvesting the Roots

After about 60-70 days of growth, I started to check for the roots of my Delicacy White kohlrabi plants. I carefully dug around the plant with a fork, making sure not to damage the roots. When I pulled out the roots, they were nice and crunchy, with a sweet and slightly peppery flavor.

Tips and Variations

Here are some additional tips and variations that I learned while growing my Delicacy White kohlrabi:
